The Many Faces of Wawasee

Located in Northern Indiana, the state's largest natural lake, Lake Wawasee boasts more than 3,500 acres of water just waiting to be enjoyed for motor boating, water and jet skiing, tubing, sailing, swimming, and Day at the Lakefishing. Located near Syracuse and North Webster, Indiana, the lake is easily accessed via US 6 and SR 13 to the north and US 30 and SR 13 from the south. There are a number of annual attractions which often bring residents and visitors out in droves. Among the most notable are Fourth of July festivities including the Wawasee Flotilla and the spectacular fireworks display which take place on both Lake Wawasee and Syracuse Lake during Fourth of July festivities.

Lake Wawasee also hosts the state-owned Wawasee Family Fishing Site. Located on the southeast shores, opportunities to fish, picnic and relax in the outdoors await you. Several local marinas are available who charge a nominal fee to use their private boat ramps. Boaters enjoy the convenience of five lakeside marinas for supplies, fuel, boat repairs and maintenance. You can rent a fishing boat, pontoon boat, or jet skis at several locations on the lake.

As the lake freezes completely over almost every winter, year-round residents enjoy snowmobiling, ice fishing, and ice boating during the winter months.

Stiff competitionThe lake has 25 miles of shoreline with over 1000 lakefront homes and condos. Additional homes are located on the channel waterways which have access to the lake.

The lake has seen a lot of history. For instance, some of the first scientific lake studies conducted anywhere in the world were done in Indiana. Indiana University established a field station on Lake Wawasee in 1895. And Eli Lilly, the pharmaceutical giant, spent his boyhood on the Lake and has written books about his experiences.

Whatever your favorite outdoor activity (or non-activity), you can enjoy it to the fullest on or near beautiful Lake Wawasee!
